The Meaning of Symbols

Updated: Mar 12, 2020

Dear Partners and Friends:

Revelation. When God supernaturally reveals a truth, is it always clear? Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would show us things to come (Joh. 16:13). How does He do it? Often through symbols. Yes, symbols. Why? Because He desires for us to seek truth. Is there a symbolic code contained in the Bible? Yes. Take for example the symbols that represent the Holy Spirit, as were given in the Bible: a dove, river, water, fire, wind, a lamp, rays of light, a cloud, and oil. Therefore, if a God-given dream or vision has any of those symbols, the most likely conclusion is that the Lord is speaking to you regarding the Holy Spirit.

The Prophet, Daniel, had symbolic visions, which in order for him to understand them, he sought the Lord. At one point, the vision was so important that the angel, Gabriel, came to help Daniel with the understanding of God’s supernatural revelation to him.

Take note of the actions Daniel took to understand the message of symbols God gave to him:

"Then he (Gabriel) said to me, “Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words... 14 Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision is in regard to the days yet to come” (Dan. 10:12, 14).

From the above Scripture, we capture the actions that Daniel took in order to understand God’s message spoken to him through symbols, and if you want to understand things to come spoken in symbols, the example of Daniel must be followed:

  • MAKE A DECISION TO UNDERSTANDING

“set your heart on understanding” (v 12)

  • SET ASIDE TIME TO SEEK GOD, WHICH MAY INCLUDE FASTING

“humbling yourself before your God” (v 12)

  • PRAY

"your words were heard" (v 13)

Take note of two things:

1. THE VISION PERTAINED “TO THE DAYS YET TO COME” (v 14). The Lord will show

us things to come!

2. DANIEL WAS FAITHFUL WITH WHAT GOD SHOWED HIM TO SEEK FOR

UNDERSTANDING OF IT. There is a principle to be understood here: be faithful with

little, and God will give much (Luk. 16:10). Seek God for understanding of symbols given through dreams and visions.

Allow me to expound just a bit more on Biblical symbolism before I tell you what God spoke to me in symbolism about Kim Clement before he passed, as well as Prince Harry before he resigned as from the royal family.

Joseph was one of the most famous dreamers, and one of the most famous dream-interpreters, in the Bible. His first recorded dream was found in Gen. 37. Through symbols God spoke to Joseph that one day his family would bow before him in respect (i.e., through the symbol of his parents and brothers’ sheaves bowing before his sheaf). In each dream of both the butler and baker (Gen. 40), there was symbolism. The butler saw three (grape) branches, which pertained to the type of work in which the butler was involved, such as serving wine. The baker saw three baskets of food, which pertained to the type of work the baker was involved, such as baking. Amazingly they both saw three and it was connected to their lives’ work, which represented three days of their lives. Each of their life’s work was demonstrated by symbolism. The dream went on with more symbolism that foretold in three days the butler would be restored to serving Pharaoh and the baker executed in three days. Pharaoh’s dream, which Joseph also interpreted, contained symbols showing the years which were coming would be years of prosperity and, also, years of lack (i.e., seven fat cows and seven skinny cows, represented seven prosperous years and seven lean years).

Ezekiel, Nebuchadnezzar and Peter all had symbolism in their dreams and visions. Peter’s vision in Acts 10 had symbolism. A sheet was let down from Heaven full of unclean foods and God saying to him, “Kill and eat.” He argued with God about it, saying, “I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean” and God said, “What I call clean, do not call unclean.” This was a vision about the Gentiles coming into the Church. The Jews regarded the Gentiles as an unclean people. God was showing Peter to “rise and eat”, in other words, Peter, digest the fact that God is bringing salvation to the Gentiles. God prepared him through symbolism. It was soon after this that Peter went to Cornelius’ house and saw this Gentile Roman centurion and his household saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. He understood the vision! The unclean had become clean!

I will share with you what God showed me about Prince Harry a few years ago, but first I will start with what the Lord spoke to me concerning Kim Clement before he passed to help you understand how God gives symbolism in dreams, visions and prophetic utterances.

Now that you understand God uses symbolism quite often. The following is what God spoke to me about Kim Clement before he entered into the hospital and passed. I had a dream that I was in a meeting, prophesying to a long line of people. He came in with his team. He went to the stage and sat down. He observed me as I was down on the floor ministering to the people. He then said to me, “Prophesy to me.” I turned around and looked at him and said, “Soon you will not be living where you are right now. You will be moving.” He looked at me and said, “I have no plans to move.” I said, “But you will.” The symbolism in that dream was “moving”, a transitioning for Kim Clement. His death came unexpected for him. God hid that from him. It was soon after that dream that Prophet Kim entered into the hospital, and shortly passed. So, by this you see how symbolism works. God did not say Kim was going to die but move.

Now about Prince Harry. The Lord said, “There will be a death in the royal family.” I even posted it a few years ago on Facebook but did not mention Prince Harry’s name. I told those closest to me that it was Prince Harry. When Prince Harry resigned from the royal family, God said to me, “This is what I told you.” The symbolism here is that God called Prince Harry’s recent resignation from the royal family “a death in the royal family”. It wasn’t a literal death, but a death, nonetheless.

I will end this article by exhorting you to:

(1) pay attention to symbols, for they represent a far deeper truth than first glance; and

(2) your destiny and purpose is a precious thing, do not waste it.
